K9 Nose Work Classes

K9 Nose Work®: Introduction to K9 Nose Work

Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and a natural desire to hunt.  The sport of K9 Nose Work® is designed to develop your dog’s natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise.  It’s a great way for your dog to have fun, build confidence, and burn lots of mental and physical energy.View the K9 Nose Work schedule.

K9 Nose Work®: Introduction to Odor

In our Introduction to Odor class, we change the game from hunting for food or toys to learning to identify and search for a target odor (birch). We focus on building dog/handler teamwork by improving the handler’s observation skills and the dogs’ communication skills to the handler when they find the target odor.

Requirements: Dogs must have appropriate vaccinations and a current fecal sample.

K9 Nosework®: Advanced/Competition

Our Advanced/Competition K9 Nose Work class is for dogs that have completed the Odor Continued class and have met minimum proficiency for finding birch and anise. Since this class is designed to prepare the teams to compete in K9 NW trials, we work on refining the teams skills by conducting drills and searches in each of the 4 competition elements. We also introduce the teams to the last target odor, clove.
