Hello All,

I have exciting news for It’s a Dog’s World. I have hired a new Director of Training, Desiree Snelleman. She will be relocating from California and her first day of work will be September 13^th. She is eager to get started and is looking forward to working with all of us. Desiree has an extensive training and coaching background and also brings some new elements to us such as Nose Work and physical fitness training for dogs and people. (see attached bio)

I am personally inspired by our partnership that is founded on support of a common mission for It’s a Dog’s World; “Enriching the lives of people through dogs…..enriching the lives of dogs through people”. I can’t wait to see where we all go from here. Please contact me with any comments or questions you have. I look forward to your responses.

Linda Mecklenburg is coming to Washington! In order to maximize her time here, we need feedback from those of you planning on attending. Please mark below which workshop you plan on attending, after you read the description of each workshop. Dates are tentative as are the workshops; for example, if more people want Masters/Excellent handling than International, we may do the former rather than the latter. And if you can’t make it on the proposed date, please email Daisy and let her know your preference.

Tentative: November 11-12 (Thursday/Friday): Fundamental Skills
This workshop will cover fundamental one and two jump skills that are specific to APHS including forward and lateral sends, recalls to “heel” and FMFC, as well as turns on the flat. The dog and handler should have these skills in place and the goal of the workshop will be to perfect those skills with hands-on guidance while deepening the handler’s understanding of how and why they apply on course. This workshop is appropriate for dogs of all levels although Open/Advanced or higher is advised. [Dogs should be at least one year old (or have instructor approval). They should be able to focus with distractions, recall and stay, and be competent on the obstacles].

Tentative: November 13-14 (Saturday/Sunday): Balancing Cues
This workshop will use familiar sequences to allow the handler and dog team to focus on balancing cues effectively with an emphasis on the appropriate use of motion.This workshop is appropriate for dogs of all levels although Open/Advanced or higher is advised. [Dogs should be at least one year old (or have instructor approval). They should be able to focus with distractions, recall and stay, and be competent on the obstacles].

Tentative: November 9-10 (Tuesday/Wednesday): International Skills
[This workshop will cover various skills required on international courses on day 1 and application of those skills on day 2. This plan may be modified based on the group.This workshop is appropriate for dogs at Exc/Masters level. Be ready to RUN.]

Tentative: November 9-10 (Tuesday/Wednesday): Masters/Excellent Skills

[This workshop will cover various skills required on Masters/Excellent courses on day 1 and application of those skills on day 2. This plan may be modified based on the group.This workshop is appropriate for dogs at Exc/Masters level. Be ready to RUN.]
